In the end of August, Meili Standards on Knitted Fabrics was passed by Jiangsu Bureau of Quality Supervision. The Standards were jointly drafted by Changshu Bureau of Quality Supervision, local government and Meili Chamber of Commerce.
The development of Meili knitting industry shows the effect of industrial transformation and upgrading. Citizens there take fully advantages of their industrial superiority to develop the local economy.
As the characteristic industry of Meili Town, knitting is the main way to enriching people. In the early 1990s, center of world knitting industry shifted gradually from Europe and America to China. Under this circumstance, Meili town developed their featured knitting field on the basis of handicraft industry. They began their business by purchasing a knitting machine and worked as the earliest owners of individual workshops.
In knitting line, people believe that China is the center of global knitting, while Meili is the center of Chinese knitting. With over two decades of development, there are many enterprises emerging in Meili Knitting filed. With excellent technology, Meili now has crucial advantages on research and production.
At present, there are 65 large knitting enterprises and over 1000 self-employed business, with totally own nearly 3,800 knitting machines.
