Moroccan Ambassador to China Jafar Hakim expressed that Morocco embassy will issue a one-year long term visa to Chinese businessmen who are interested to invest in Morocco and is willing to provide necessary assistance. This shows that economic cooperation between the two countries is rising up, including textile clothing industry. Textile and apparel industry is the second pillar industry in Morocco. Local Textile and Garment Industry Association hopes to find a Chinese partner to develop the European and American market jointly.
As one of Morocco government’s prior developing industries, textile industry in Morocco has a history of more than 100 years. Currently, the number of textile industry employees accounts for 200,000, which is the largest scale of industry employment. Due to close geography and culture, Europe has become the main market of Morocco textile industry.
According to the introduction of Morocco’s Textile and Garment Industry Association chairman Mohamed Tazi, currently, Moroccan textile industry annual output value reaches about 6 billion Euros, of which about 4 billion Euros exported to the European market, and 2 billion Euros sold in local market. It is expected that in the next 10 years, textile product consumption of local market will increase to 4 billion Euros.
In order to promote the rapid development of textile industry, Morocco new trade and industry department released the 2025 textile industry planning last year. The main contents include: to increase the scale of production; to improve and update production technology; to enhance regional and international competitiveness. Mohamed Tazi said: “China will become a good partner of Morocco, especially in spinning, weaving, accessories and other fields, and will urge us to complete the export target.”
In addition, he believes in the aspect of enterprise operation cost, China and Morocco are equally matched. “It is also an opportunity for Morocco. Chinese companies can help us improve the industrial chain. Morocco textile industry is full of opportunities, both in production and design fields”
